History — Story, Resume & Perspective

History

Twenty years advising senior leaders on innovation, disruption, and the structural future of their industries — and a decade running the research practice that turns behavioral evidence into strategic direction they can commit to.

My father was an engineer at Sony, and by the 1990s I was obsessed with technology. I was studying Architecture at Canada's top university when I was introduced to the power of digital media, and it changed everything for me. Since then I've lived and worked at the intersection of technological innovation, behavioral change, and the harder question underneath both: why we build technology the way we do.

I founded PH1 Research in 2012 and grew it into a partner for some of the largest technology, telecom, media, universities, and institutions in North America.

We began by bringing human-centred design to organizations that struggled to think past clicks and conversions. By 2017 we were one of the first agencies conducting remote prototype testing, competitive benchmarking, and journey mapping. By 2019 we had become a leader in customer experience strategy and service design of complex digital and in-person footprints. By 2023 we took our experience leading strategic planning of how executives can best leverage emerging technology and built our new AI practice that challenged the new technocratic philosophy of rushing head-first into a technology that was riddled with issues.

Our rapid evolution to incorporate the latest perspectives and newest technological possibilities made us the ideal partner for organizations transforming their industries so quickly that mastering the behavioral layer was essential. Our work enabled Microsoft, Spotify, Hims & Hers, the Government of Canada, the NFL, La Liga, and a dozen other organizations across six industries and four global regions to overcome the prickly adoption barriers of new technologies and interfaces.

I've been writing and presenting about artificial intelligence since 2017 — before the enterprise deployments, before the failure patterns were visible. In 2018 I founded CX Challenges, a national customer-experience conference series I ran through 2021, with partnerships including Shopify, TELUS, and Google. In 2023 I founded Product Impact, a strategic content platform and podcast now read and watched by more than 10,000 senior practitioners navigating the AI product era.

Perspective

My obsession with educating teams comes from recognizing the pace and pressure they face

The teams I work with are moving faster, and under more pressure, than any playbook accounts for. Educating them — clearly, honestly, without hype — is the throughline of everything I make.

It's why I founded Product Impact and CX Challenges, write the reports, and hold the executive conversations: to hand practitioners the map before the terrain shifts under them. The pace isn't slowing, so the support has to keep up.
